TIme Line
The canon
sources, manga and animation, does not support Sesshoumaru raising Rin. This is
based off of Japanese culture, customs, and mostly the manga. The main story
line of Inuyasha is from April/May of 1996 to March 1997. She only traveled with him for 4-5 months
below will break it down.
Japanese
school years are April to March the following year. 6 years for elementary, 3
years for both Middle and High school. Volume 3, She tells Inuyasha that she is
a third year student and preparing for high school exams.

Japanese
Uniforms: As readers see Kagome mostly in her winter uniform. Japanese wear
winter uniforms from October to June. October 1st is when they
switch to their winter uniform and June 1st is when they switch to
their summer school uniform. Therefore, they are only in their summer uniform
for 4 months.

The
story of Inuyasha is from April or May 1996 to March 1997. Less than a year. Sesshomaru and Rin travel a few months
together. Because one Sesshomaru and Rin
meets in chapter 129. They meet in the October (1996) to March (1997) time
period.
There are a few slight inconstancies trying to work this one, this could be
work out a few ways. One way you could go by the night of the new moon, which is
when Inuyasha becomes human. The nights occur in volume 5, 9, 16-17, 21, 37,
42, and 47 excluding volume 27-28 because that was the barrier on Mt. Hakurai. Volume
5 is in the summer, leaving us with 6 nights of the new moon and 6 months. The lunar
moon calendar is 29 days and different from the Gregorian calendar used
nationwide. Sesshoumaru meets Rin right before the night of the new moon for
16-17 representing November giving us about or a little over 4 months. Remember
Rin has been in Kaede’s care for 11 days in March and stays in her care. She was
not with him and not counted.
As you can tell everything seems clear
and simple. However, there is an inconstancy here. There is enough days to make
two months after the night of the new moon in volume 21. Since Volume 30
supports a skipped new moon night. It would seem the manga is trying to cram 7
months into 6 months. The problem is not fitting in right in the Japanese
school year. Looking at it this way
makes it about 5 months Rin was Sesshoumaru.
Another
inconstancy, the night of the new moon in volume 37 and volume 42 will have about
14 known days each. Following the days,
Kagura died a day after the new moon in volume 37 and Sesshoumaru receives the
meidou 3 days before the new moon in volume 42.
Making that 3 weeks and 3 days in-between her death and him receiving the
meidou. Kagura comes in volume 15 and dies in volume 38. That is 3 new moon
nights, Kagura is 3 months old or close to 4 months from when she was born from
Naraku flesh to when she dies.
With
the flow of the story, the next thing this blog did went day by day, instead of
following the new moons considering the youkai or moon gods were playing havoc
with the moons since there can be 4 different sizes of the moon in the same
night in the same chapter, See Volume
chapter. If the youkai or the
moon gods could play havoc with the moons what could they not play havoc with
the nights of the new moon. Starting at the end and meeting the first October
night in Volume 5. In doing this, Rin traveled with Sesshoumaru for 4 months and
changing the 3 weeks and 3 days to 9 to 10 days that Sesshoumaru received the
meidou from Kagura’s death. Day by Day
the story flows better.
Sesshoumaru
did not raise Rin. This is like a summer
at camp, and he is like a camp leader. Rin is one tough kid to be walking
barefoot on the terrain of Sengoku Jidai in winter asking about the
world around them and he answers her. If you as a child had to stay with a
friend of the family for 4 months and developed a bond would that make that
friend a father/father-figure or mother/mother-figure to you? Most likely the
friend of the family would be viewed as an authority-figure that has protected
you for 4 months. This blog believes If Rin had to been 12 or older the ideas
of being a daughter or him raising her would not exist. Sesshoumaru did not act like a father, he
acted like a companion. As a few places in this blog had said, Sesshoumaru and
Rin are companions that is how Takahashi-sensei wanted them to be viewed.
The
rest of this entry is the timeline. This blog does not claim that it is
accurate or what Takahashi-sensei planned. Some days were educated guesses. Some
days put together could be different days, and some days could had been broke
apart from her vision. Mistakes could had been made. One more minor note, if
someone tries a timeline to see the claim in this blog to either see it or
disputed it. Sesshoumaru leaves Rin with Kaede to hunt down Magatsuhi, 11 days
later, her living with Kaede comes official. This blog does not count those 11
days with the 4 months he is with her because she is not with him.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_Japan
The following are mock conclusions and could be different from what she had planned. We had got all the notes and worked it backwards since that was at the end of March. October, December, January, and March has 31 days. November 30 and February 28 days. 182 days.
Then we put the information in a few different ways.
We followed the manga. We first took
notes, the first five volumes are mid to late April or May to October. October
starting in volume 5 act 7 or 45 overall because of Kagome's seifuku (school outfit). Winter seifuku is October 1st to May 31st. Summer is June 1st to September 31st, Chapter 1 she is wearing a winter seifuku. Chapter 25 Kagome and friends are wearing the summer seifuku and Kagome says it is summer. Volume 5 act 7 or chapter 45 she is back to the winter outfit. Japanese school years are April to March with breaks.
Since this is about the time Rin was with Sesshoumaru we did not focus on the beginning. This starts with vol 5 chapter 7.
